What's New in the Internet Explorer Administration Kit?
Internet Explorer 4.0 has added many new features and concepts, most of which are reflected in the IEAK 4.0. For detailed information about Internet Explorer 4.0, refer to the help documentation that is installed with the product or visit http://www.microsoft.com/ie.
The INS Editor, which has become the IEAK Profile Manager, is more powerful and has an improved user interface. All customizable features available in the IEAK 3.02 are still available. The following customizations are new:
- Active Setup wizard bitmap and title bar.
- Up to 10 custom components can be added and their title for Active Setup can be customized. (When Active Setup indicates "Installing..." the custom components title default is "Custom Components.")
- Up to 10 installation options (such as Minimal, Standard, Full, and Custom) and what is included in each.
- Up to 10 download sites for users to download the custom package from.
- Custom browser welcome message.
- Active Desktop Components.
- Custom User Agent String (appended to default only).
New for corporate administrators:
- Options to include and customize the Active Desktop.
- Complete customization of the Channel bar.
- Option for a silent install (no prompting for the user).
- Timed auto-configure.
- System policies and restrictions.
- Security zones.
- Authenticode settings.
- Site Certificates and the ability to add a new root certificate.
- My Computer and Control Panel folder Web view customization.
New for ISPs:
- Internet Connection Manager profile can be imported into the custom package.
- Ability to add one channel and delete any competing channels.
- Single floppy disk distribution packages.
- Proxy settings.
